Cardiff University’s Crime and Security Research Institute are pleased to invite you to our first Hackathon, hosted in collaboration with South Wales Police.

We will team members of South Wales Police, local authority practitioners and industry representatives with social science and computer science academics from Cardiff University and the University of South Wales, bringing together subject matter experts from multiple sectors. Teams will “hack” current challenges to policing, based on the following key areas:

  •        Major Event Management for Public Order and Safety
  •        Knife Crime in the City
  •        Road Safety in Crowded Places
  •        Alcohol and Substance Misuse in the Night-Time Economy
  •        After Dark Transport

The purpose of the event is to create a space for innovative, creative problem solving.

Data will be provided to each team, as well as the expectation that partner agencies bring their own data to complement this. Teams will have 24 hours to put together a presentation suggesting ways to improve their chosen problem. They will deliver their ideas to the judging panel during lunchtime on Wednesday 25th.  There will be a prize awarded to the winning idea(s), to develop the idea further.
